A get away

Last weekend we went to Utah to visit Ben's family with Ben's mom. We had such a great time! Slade played with his cousins until he was totally exhausted, we did some shopping, Madie rolled over for the first time, we went to Tacanos for dinner (which might have been the best meal I have ever eaten) and Ben and I got some much needed recharging! Things have been so stressful lately and it was so nice to get away. I love going down there, it is always so much fun.

Madie got some 4 month old pictures taken, here is a couple of my favorites...

I know I am biased but she is so beautiful!

We are still looking for a new place to live. Our lease is up in April and I am finding it really stressful not knowing where we are going to live then. If anyone has any suggeestions let me know. I am also looking for swimming lessons or some other kind of 3 year sport for Slade this summer to help him release some of his energy and to be around other kids. If anyone can give me any ideas that would really help me out.

We did it!!!

We have finally accomplished the task of getting Slade to eat something other than ramen noodles and pop tarts! HOORAY!!! We successfully got him to eat yogurt, french toast, and chicken nuggets. I know that probably doesn't seem that great but any of you that have ever seen us try to get him to eat know what a task this has been. On a funny side note he asked Ashley (our babysitter) on Monday morning where her doughnuts were and when she responded that she didn't have any he told her that she needed to go to the store and get some.

I am also looking for a preschool for Slade if anyone knows of a good one please let me know.

As for Madie she is just as cute as ever. She is such a good baby and everyone keeps telling me to enjoy it while it lasts. I might be delusional but I am convinced that she will always be cute and sweet. She is laughing so much and we are pretty sure that she is close to being able to roll over. She is also sleeping through the night now too, which I know I should be grateful for but I am secretly sad about. I find myself getting up in the middle of the night and just standing next to her crib watching her sleep. Partly to make sure she is breathing and partly because I just miss her. I really hate being away from her during the day. People keep asking me if “it is getting easier” to leave her and I think that is such a silly question, No it isn’t getting easier – I miss her every minute of every day. My one saving grace is that I have a great babysitter that really seems to love Madie and I know Madie loves her.

As for Ben and I we are still plugging along. We got Ben applied for school in fall at ISU, we are still looking for a new place to live in April, and we are really looking forward to going to Utah this weekend!

this week at the Barrett's

Yesterday morning Slade went to the dentist for the first time. I was certain that we were going to have to find a new dentist because he would be so naughty. Much to my surprise he was amazingly well behaved, Ben said he sat good, opened his mouth and let them clean and floss his teeth. We were both shocked. When he got home he informed me that he got bubblegum and cookie dough toothpaste... I know what you are thinking, sounds good huh!?!? He is also going through a new phase where he builds guns with his blocks and runs around our house shooting all the elks and bigfoots (thanks Papa Ron). So if you have a problem with elks or bigfoots at your house let me know and I will send the little hunter over. Be careful though he is very protective of his guns - he keeps telling Madie not to touch his gun.

Madie is also on the move. She loves to lay on a blanket on the floor and kick and play with her toys. She now has figured out that she can turn herself. Man they grow so fast.
