Sugar bugs

We always tell our kids that if they don't get all of the sugar bugs off of their teeth when they brush that they will eat their teeth and give them a cavity. Well it happened - the sugar bugs got through and ate a hole in one of Slade's teeth.

So he had it filled today. I was super nervous for him and was sure that he would freak out when he found out that he had to get a... du du dun... SHOT. We didn't tell him what they were going to do just that they were going to fix it.

I totally envisioned trying to wrangle Madie while I tried to console a freaking out Slade so I dropped Madie off at my friend Annalee's house to play (thanks again Annalee) and took Abbi with me.

Our Dentist is seriously AWESOME!
They got Slade in the chair and set up with a cartoon to watch... seriously I wish the dentist had tv's fro you to watch when I was a kid!
Loaded him up on some happy gas and then when he was ready got the Novocaine.
He told Slade it would be a little pinch and to hold still.
Slade did! Stiff as a board!
When he was done Slade said
"um that hurt a little bit more than a pinch".
After he was numb it took about 5 minutes to fill his cavity.
Then he got 2 prizes and said
"that was so easy!"

What a good kid!

So I know you are wondering if I got a stroke face picture of him. Well his face didn't get to strokey, so I will take one for the team because I know it will make Beth and Annalee's day.

Listening

Do you remember four years ago when this happened?

Well there was a valuable lesson that I learned that week.
BE IN TUNE!

So this morning Abbi woke up and was a little fussy. Nothing else just fussy. My first thought was take her to the doctor, she has an ear infection. I tried to tell myself that it was because she cut a tooth the other day and she was fine. The feeling kept nagging at me (lets face it - it was the Spirit - I know that - I am so glad he's got my back). So I got the girls ready and went to the Doctor.

I always feel like have to exaggerate the kids symptoms because if I say "I felt prompted to bring her in" they will put a great big "Paranoid Mom" stamp on my kids files so when they ask what is going on with her I say...

Well she has been pulling at her ears. = I saw her touch her ear once.
She has had a fever on and off. = I felt her head and she was fine.

Even with this they look at me like I am a crazy person because she is laughing with the nurse and wanting to get down and play.

Both of my girls are like this -  they show little to no symptoms of an infection and act totally normal. I have had to learn to be very in tune with them.

Well she ended up having double ear infections. He said that her one ear is really bad.

It never ceases to amaze me how much pain my kiddos can handle.

So I guess you could call it Mother's intuition or a gut feeling or whatever else. But I know that it was the Spirit watching out for my sweet little Abbi. I am grateful for the role that the Spirit plays in my life and I am grateful that I can (sometimes) recognize the Lords hand in my life.

Adopted

I think that it is fair to say that we have been adopted...

by this little cutie

We found her Wednesday night crying by our back fence so we went over to ask our neighbors if she belonged to them. They said no but that they had interacted with her and she was very friendly. Madie immediately knew that meant she needed a home. I sure feel bad for any boy that likes her in the future because when she bats those big brown eyes at you it sure is hard to say no to her. I told her that the kitty could come live in our back yard but had to stay outside - she was OK with that.
So our neighbor lady helped me get the kitty in our yard and then gave me enough cat food to make it through the night.

I put towel, some food and some water out for her and left her in our yard. This morning I went outside and meowed and she ran right up to me (she had been hiding under a bush). Since then I have not seen her go more than 10 feet from our deck. I think she is staying.

When Madie got up she asked for some chocolate milk (like every morning), I told her that she needed to go out and feed her kitty first. She jumped up and ran to the back yard.

She sat outside playing with the kitty for about an hour. I finally made her a bowl of cereal and let her eat out at her picnic table because she had no desire to go inside. When Madie sat down to eat the kitty sat on the grass and waited for her to get done. It took some serious bribing to get Madie to come get dressed.

All morning Madie kept saying "well I guess I have a cat now"

Do you like the shoe on her necklace? Thank you Mcdonalds for thi awesome happy meal toy and thank you whoever told Madie it would be cool to wear it on her necklace. This has been its home for about a month now.
When we got home from running our errands Madie spent a couple hours sitting on the picnic table reading a Barbie magazine. I think these two are going to be great friends! It is s cute watching them play in the yard together.

I am sure you are wondering what we are calling this kitty. Well Madie is obsessed with the name Kaylee. She has 3 cousins named Kaylee and lately she wants ever ones name to be Kaylee, she wants us to call her that, when she plays dolls she always calls her babies Kaylee and has even asked us if we can change Abbi's name to Kaylee... so naturally she decided we needed to call the kitty... Kaylee.

So this has nothing to do with the kitty but is just funny Madie.
You see the scooby doo band aid on Madie's knee. Well she fell down in the driveway a couple days ago and skinned her knee. Well she refused to take the band aid off and was trying to nurse it along by using tape to help keep it stuck down. Well at bath time tonight I finally convinced her to take it off and let me put a new one on after her bath. While the girls were in the tub Abbi reached over and grabbed Madie's skinned knee. Madie started screaming and said "see Mom I told you we shouldn't get a baby". It was so hard not to laugh at her.

Outnumbred

You know those days that you swear your kids woke up and said to each other
"Hey I bet if we work together we can kill Mom today!"
Today was totally one of those days.

Don't get me wrong, I love being with my kids but I am really looking forward to school starting. I have had about all of the fighting that I can handle.

So I am getting ready this morning and Beth calls me to see if we want to come play today...
Ummm Yeah!
Unfortunately I have a list of things that I needed to get done today.
Pick up a semi part for Ben, overnight it to him, get Slade jeans for school and new church pants, get the rest of Slade's school supplies... and it goes on.
CRAP!

Slade's jeans... I thought that i would avoid the whole going to the store and having him try on a gazillion pairs of pants deal and I ordered his pants on line. The pants that came were WAY to big...awesome! So I decided that I was better off taking him to the store and having him try stuff on.
So can anyone explain to me why they can't make the smaller jean sizes in husky? Have you seen him? He is a big kid. They don't start husky pants until the next size up... irritating like kids don't start filling out until they are 10 - come on people!
So i pack up all three kids and take them to the mall - I would not recommend this - it is not for the weak by any means!

They were total monsters the entire time. i am pretty sure that i looked like a complete mental patient walking around the mall uttering death threats under my breath but all one would have to do is spend 2 minutes with them today and I swear you would have felt the same way. Slade and Madie spent the ENTIRE day fighting.

So I got the pants and then go to walmart to get supplies. You seriously would have thought that school starts tomorrow. I was only able to get about half of what he needed and did not have anything left to go to another store - another day I guess. So we came home.

Then their is sweet little Abbi. everyone always says all she does is just sits there contently and looks around. Well what you don't know is that she is getting pretty feisty! You should see the fit she throws when I try to take the phone or remote away from her... YIKES!

She has also done this to my arm, all of those little purple marks are bruises from Abbi pinching me while she nurses. What a little stinker!

Anyway I am glad this day is over - I totally felt ganged up on today!

Where did that come from?

Tonight I read the kids an article from the Friend before bed. It was a little story about a girl who went to a party and the people that were there were saying things that she knew were inappropriate, the girl talked about how yucky it made her feel and how she should have had her parents come pick her up early.

After I finshed that one they begged for another... and then another. By the end of the third story both girls were out. I put them to bed and then tried to get Slade to bed.

Then it started... the bawling.

What the what?

So I finally got out of him that some of the language that is used at a house that he goes to makes him feel yucky and that he doesn't know what to do.

YIKES!

This particular house is not even a house that I can just tell him to call me and I can come get him. What do you say to that?

I am at a loss... suggestions?

I guess  I am glad that he understands but at the same time I can't do anything to help him. Heartbreaking!

MIA

Do you measure the level at which you are sucking at life by the amount of blog posts you make and their frequency?

No???

Just me?

Well I could give you my list full of woe is me, I am so busy, my life is so hard, blah blah blah, but really it doesnt matter. The truth is that I have just not felt up to blogging. I have had a bad case of the blaaaaaaaaaaaaahs since I got back from North Carolina. It happens.

We have however had a busy summer that I have not wrote anything about full of crawling, swimming, floating, mice, work, heat and so on.

Hopefully I can muster up some motivation to do some catching up.

Wish me luck!
