Say Cheese!

As requested here are some pics of some recent Barrett happenings...

Madie Learning to Crawl

An Easter Egg Hunt at Grandmas

Slade's Birthday Party
...The highly discussed garbage truck cake. It didn't turn out like I wanted but Slade liked it so that is all that matters. He was also excited that that he got to keep the toy garbage truck.
...Blowing out the candles. He got kind of embarrassed and kept covering his face.
... Slade with his new bike.

Madie's First Ponytail
... I think she likes it.

Happy 3rd Birthday Slade!

Slade is 3!

Here are a 20 things about Slade.

1. He LOVES trucks! Any and every kind of truck; he can name just about every kind of construction equipment and he especially likes garbage trucks (he asked Santa for one).
2. He is obsessed with his sister. He always needs to know where “Madie Woo” is and when she cries he will always tell her that it is alright and will give her one of his toys to play with.
3. Although he is ALL boy he has a very sensitive side. If someone is sad on TV he gets very sad and says something like “that man sad, he loves that boy”.
4. He loves Vicks vapor rub, even when he is not sick. If he sees the Vicks he will come over to me and pull his shirt up to have me rub some on his tummy or back.
5. He loves going to Aunt Julie’s house. Whenever we ask him what he wants to do that weekend he always says “go to Juwee’s house”
6. He is a very picky eater! Right now all that we can get him to eat is sweets, pancakes, and chicken nuggets.
7. He wants to watch the Barbie movies (I have some at home) in the worst way but Ben won’t let him.
8. He always wants to help me pick out what I am going to wear that day. When I am getting ready in the morning he will always come in my closet and tell me that he will pick out a shirt for me. Then he proceeds to pull about a dozen other shirts off the hanger and lets them lay on the floor.
9. During church he yells at the kids that are being noisy to be quiet, he obviously doesn’t get that yelling is noisy.
10. After he gets done wrestling with Dad he says that his muscles are bigger.
11. He loves to sing and dance. If a song he likes comes on the radio in the car he bops his head along with it and if you try to change the station he gets really mad.
12. He loves to cook. The minute he sees me making dinner he asks for his stool and insists on helping. He loves to pour ingredients in and stir things. If we are making something that needs to be flipped he is ecstatic!
13. He likes to dust. Whenever I get the duster out he throws a fit until I let him get the “yucky dust”.
14. He would eat a billion Flintstones vitamins in one day if we would let him. He always tries to trick us into giving him extra “bitamins”.
15. He hates it when people are angry with each other; he always tries to fix the problem.
16. The first thing he does in the morning after he has got his chocolate milk and had cartoons turned on is build a gun out of his duplos. He then spends most of the day running around the house shooting the deers, elks, aaaaaaaaaantelopes, and bigfoots.
17. He didn’t say anything but GAAAAAA until he was 2.
18. He told our Stake President that Daddy has a cute bum.
19. Whenever he helps you do something and you thank him he says “yep I am a cop, I help people”.
20. He loves Sponge Bob, Transbormers, and Cars. When Sponge Bob comes on he screams the theme song at the top of his lungs and then “plays” his nose like a flute.

We love you mister punk! We hope you have a great birthday!!!

Easter Weekend

We went to Utah for the weekend, Our sister-in-law Indy got baptized. It was such an amazing weekend. We are so happy for her and the chance that we got to be a part of her special weekend.

We also went to Temple Square (twice), it is so beautiful. All of the flowers were blooming, it really made us anxious for spring.

Time Flies

I don't know how this happened but Madie is 6 months old already and Slade is going to be 3 in 2 weeks, where does the time go.

Madie is officially sitting up now. She is a little wobbly if she turns to look at something to fast but other then that she does pretty good. She also lays on her belly and pushes up on her arms. She seems so frustrated that she can't get herself to move foward. She tries to go for a toy in front of her but just ends up scooting back until she has managed to wedge herself under the couch. She is close though, Wednesday night we caught her up on all fours rocking back and forth. So cute but she just seems to little to be getting ready to crawl.

This is Madie all ready for church. She looked so cute and was so smiley we couldn't help but take her picture.

Here is Slade that same morning. We always have to bring his magna doodle to church with us, as you can see he was not going to let us forget it. Then all through sacrament meeting he makes Ben draw him trucks, bikes, guns, all kinds of construction equipment and best of all... bigfoots (again, thanks Papa Ron).

Slade with his "gun" shooting the deers, elks, and Bigfoots.

Finally (this one is my favorite) Every morning while Ben and I are getting ready the kids lay on the bed watching cartoons just like this. If Slade doesn't like his little sister it is hard to tell!

Life is Hard

I know that I haven't been writing much but life has just been hard and I don't want to complain, so tonight I am just going to blog about my favorite thing in the world, my family.
I am so grateful for my husband. I know that when Ben and I started out many people looked at us and thought that we would never last. And I know that we have still not been married that long but in the 1 year and 5 months that we have been married we have survived pregnancy (which as Ben would tell you was a lot harder then it looked), a new baby, legal "issues" with Courtney (and everything else that comes along with her), and Ben loosing his job. I know that probably doesn't sound like that much but for those of you that have had me cry on your shoulder you can attest it is. And through all this in our new life together our love has grown. I am so proud of us, I think we have even impressed ourselves with how well we are doing. I love my husband so much and am so grateful for the man he is.
I am so grateful for Slade. That sweet not so little man. He is so funny, the things he comes up with just blow us away. He is a handful most days but how can you not love him? Lately in addition to his obsession with guns he is also into ghosts. Apparently they are all over our apartment. Some of them he shoots with his gun (a bunch of duplos that he has built into a gun) and some he says are nice. He also walks around with his hands up in the air saying "I a ghost"... so cute and Ben does a very funny impression of it. Also from an earlier post were I was so excited about him eating new food - well now all he wants to eat are chicken nuggets, fantastic huh?!?!
And then there is Madie, man she was so worth the wait. I love that little girl so much. It breaks my heart to leave her everyday but I am grateful that Ben has that time to bond with her because I tend to hog her all to myself. She is amazing and it amazes me how much of a sense of self worth she has given me. She is getting so big! She holds her own bottle now, she is eating squash and peas (and loves them) and is so close to being able to sit up by herself. Still no teeth but they seem to have stopped bugging her - or maybe she has grown accustomed to the pain. Simply said - she brings me more joy than I knew was possible.
I love these three so much, I hope that they know what a blessing they are to me and how much strength they give to me. I would not be able to do anything that I do without them and I can not comprehend how i ever was able to do anything before them. They are my everything, I am so blessed!
I love you Ben, Slade, and Madie Lou!!!

It's been a while...

So I know what you are all thinking, it is about freakin time that she posts something new... I know I know I am sorry life has been super crazy lately. So here is what's new at Ben and Kari's...

First and foremost (and in case you haven't read Beth's Blog)
I am now a Mary Kay consultant... HOORAY!!!
I am super excited about it (a little nervous too), but I really feel like this is going to be a great addition to our family. Tomorrow Beth is going to help me get my website together and the rest of my materials all in place. Keep checking back to hear more on my progress with it.

Second Madie is trying to get teeth
Poor little thing she is gnawing on her little fists nonstop. Her little gums are hard and white, I sure hope her teeth pop through soon, she has been miserable.

Third Ben is going crazy at home
While he is getting in some great bonding time with Slade and Madie he is definitely ready to go back to work. He has been home for four weeks now. On the upside he has been great at helping out at home and I have to do very little if any work around the house when I get home. He has applied some different places but we have heard nothing yet, we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Fourth we have found a place to live
Ok we didn’t really look that far, well we did but I guess you could say that we didn’t decide to far. We are going to stay in our current apartment for another year.

Fifth My Mom and Stepdad are coming to see us this summer and I can’t wait for them to come.

Sixth is not really something that is going on just something that made my day, the other morning I was walking out the door to go to work and from in the house I heard Slade say “hey Mommy” so I poked my head back in and asked him what’s up and he said “you the coolest” and gave me a thumbs up. Totally made my day. It really is the little things that bring you joy!

That is what is going on with us. Hope you are all doing well!
