You might think that by looking at Madie that she is not a good eater. However after seeing her eat you would probably think we are not giving her enough to eat.
And this was her second plate... she does this with every meal. If you look close enough you can see a noodle stuck up her nose. So cute!

When the lights go out
Last night we had a power outage. We were right in the middle of dinner when it went out. Little Madie, totally unaffected, just kept shoveling her Mac-n-cheese into her mouth and Slade freaked out! Thanks to his mother who thought it was a good idea to take him to see New Moon he was scared that vampires and werewolves were going to come get us. Then he ran to the TV (which we had explained to him wouldn’t work) and freaked out again saying “oh no now we have to buy a new TV too”. It was a very traumatic night!
So when it was closing in on bedtime and our spotlight was losing battery power we decided to put the kids in their PJ’s and go for a little drive so we could charge the spotlight and hopefully calm Slade down. We drove up by the temple, which was dimly lit from their generator power. Ben and I were talking about how weird it was to see the temple not lit and Slade says “It still looks pretty though”. It was so sweet to hear the love that he has for the temple in his little guy testimony. We drove around a little while longer until he had dozed off and then headed for home. When we got there the power was still off so we lit a few candles and all 4 of us crawled into our bed (again, I am so grateful for a king sized bed). Slade again started telling Ben that he was scared and then said “we better call Jesus”. I am so grateful that he knows that when he is scared or needs help that he can turn to his Savior and get the help that he needs.
I am grateful for the blessing that we received last night of no power, to put aside the things of the world and be able to see and hear what we needed to hear. I am also grateful that our Heavenly Father sends us these amazing little spirits to teach us and to help us remember what is really important.

Will you tell your sister a story?
Madie is sick... again. She has yet another ear infection and we were informed that she is well on her way to needing to get tubes. Tonight the poor little lady was just miserable. She had a fever and was just not happy. I layed her on my lap and we put ear drops in her ear and then Ben got a cool, wet washcloth to put on her head. She was not happy with that and was throwing a little fit. Of course big brother came to the rescue and wanted to help. I asked him to tell her a little story to make her feel better. This is what we got...

Count your many Blessings
I have spent most of my day very upset. Sometimes people do things that you have no control over but it still hurts you. I am not going to go into the details about what has happened, it does me no good to rehash it and it does not help anyone reading it to know either. So I will simply say that Satan is using someone to try to tear apart my family and it makes me very angry and we are not going to let him win.
So I know I have done this before but I find that when I am upset about things that it helps me to sit back and count my blessings.
• I have a job.
• I have a warm home.
• We have just enough money to get by.
• I have a safe place for my kids to go during the day that they love.
• I have an amazing family! I could not do anything that I do without their support.
• I have the faith that Heavenly Father has a plan for me.
• I have an amazing husband that loves me and would do anything to make me happy. A couple weeks ago I was having a really bad day at work; so when he got home from work he got on the computer, found a picture of a dozen roses, printed it off and brought it to work for me. He knows I would have freaked if he would have spent the money on real ones but he had the “thought”. He is so awesome! He uplifts and strengthens me every day and I am so grateful to have him in my life.
• I have a cute little 3 ½ year old living in my home that reminds me daily that everything happens for a reason. A couple of weeks ago I was getting ready for work in the morning and the kids were lying on our bed. Madie was watching Baby Einstein and having her morning bottle and Slade was staring at our wedding picture on the wall. After a little while he came into the bathroom and said “Hey Mommy, thank you for marrying my Dad”. What a sweet little man. I keep trying to remind myself that all of the hassle that we have to go through with Slade’s mom is worth it to know that he will grow up to be a safe, normal person. I am grateful that my Heavenly Father saved me to play the role of this amazing little spirit’s stepmom.
• I have the most beautiful little girl ever. Madie has such a huge personality. She always makes me smile. She is getting mischievous now. At night when we are getting the kids PJ’s on she likes to steal Slade’s shirt and run away with it. She laughs the entire way, it is so cute. She is the sweetest little thing ever, she loves to give kisses and snuggle with you. I just can’t say enough how much I love her. She is such a precious addition to our family.
I am grateful for these and all of my many other blessings and I am grateful that Heavenly Father gives me days like these so that I can have the opportunity to ponder on the blessings in my life.

First ever all Girls Weekend
This weekend is Madie and Mommy's first ever All girls weekend. Daddy is hunting and Slade is with his mom. When I lived at home and my Step-dad would go hunting my Mom and I would always have a super girly girl weekend. We would go shopping, rent girl movies, make popcorn and really just hang out. It is one of the things that I miss the most about living so far away. So in an effort to cure a little of my homesickness I decided that Madie and I would have an all girls weekend.
We started off Friday night by picking up taco bell for dinner. We came home, ate, and got in our jammies. Then we watched Barbie Princess and the Pauper. It took us a while to find it though because Ben had hidden it in the very back of the cabinet (probably because Slade kept asking if he could watch it).
In the process of me getting the movie ready Madie figured out how to turn the TV off and on. This made for some interesting movie watching because she kept getting up and turning the TV off and laughing hysterically.
Saturday we both slept in (until 7:30 because that is sleeping in when you are a parent) and then we layed on the couch flipping between cartoons and HGTV for a while. We got ready and did a few things around the house... well I did a few things around the house while Madie took her morning nap. We then headed to Idaho Falls. We went to the mall and just walked around and looked at stuff for a while. Madie is the greatest shopper ever, she loves riding in her stroller and she loves looking at things. I always hold things up for her when we go shopping and ask her if she likes them or not. She has recently started shaking her head yes or no in response. I doubt she really knows what she is answering but it sure is cute to watch her. Then we went to Sams club and did some grocery shopping to get ready for Grandma and uncle Mike to come this week. We came home and Madie had some mac in cheese and then we did some laundry. While I was collecting laundry from around the house Madie wandered into the bathroom. She usually will climb up on Slade's stool and try to look in the mirror, well this time I went in there and the little mountain goat had pushed the stool next to the toilet and was standing on the toilet squealing in delight. Seriously she is barely one... should a one year old be that smart. Then we watched some TV and she fell asleep early on me.
Tomorrow we are going to go to church and watch some football and wait for the guys to come home.
We are really enjoying our time together but we are really looking forward to Daddy and Slade coming home tomorrow. Madie keeps looking for them it is so cute.

Madie's Birth Week
I think that people should not get just one day to celebrate their birthday… I think that they should get a whole week! I mean after all we are celebrating the day of your birth, that is a really big deal!!! So on the eve of Madie’s Birth week I decided that it was necessary to make a list of all of the wonderful things about Madie. I know I have missed a ton but here goes…
• She loves Baby Einstein, she watches it every morning while I am getting ready for work and she will either start clapping when I turn it on or she will stand up and “dance” (swing her arms back and forth).
• She sings herself to sleep
• She thinks that her brother Slade is the funniest thing in the world
• She is a Mama’s girl but she has her Daddy wrapped around her little finger
• She is tall and very skinny, her shorts and skirts are size 6 months but she has to wear 12 month pants for the length (we have no idea where she got this from – although my Mom says I was tall and skinny at one time too)
• She hates getting her hair done
• She likes to climb on everything
• Despite my best efforts to make her girly, she would choose to play with a truck over a dolly any day
• She makes car noises when she plays with cars on our “road” mat with her brother
• For the first 4 months of her life she would only sleep if she was being held or was right up close to me
• She gives wonderfully slobbery kisses
• She will eat just about anything I give her but not necessarily when I want her to eat it
• She has her Daddy’s pretty eyes
• She loves to look out the window
• She is super smiley in the morning, she will just play with her fishy soother in her crib if I don’t get her right away in the morning
• She loves shoes! When we are in the baby girl shoe section at the store she will fight to try and grab them and then scream bloody murder when you take them away from her
• She loves to cuddle (and I love to cuddle her)
• She almost always starts laughing when we are saying prayers
• She loves to take a bath, the minute she hears the water turn on she runs into the bathroom and tries to climb in
• She recently has found my Tupperware cupboard and thinks it is great fun to empty it
• She only has two teeth, her two bottom ones. There is one trying to come through on the top that we are hoping makes its way out before next Saturday for better cake chewing.
• She is such a blessing in our lives, she brings a smile to my face every day and I am so grateful for her.
